Petai seeds are used as vegetables or fresh vegetables, eaten when they are still young, when fresh or processed (stir-fried or boiled). The fruit is large and elongated, the type of pod in one fruit has up to 20 petai seeds in it, light green in color covered with a brown seed coat. Petai seeds have a distinctive smell and are similar to jengkol, these vegetables are usually sold with the pods.
